Throughout this semester, I feel like I have really grown. I have learned that it is important to listen and communicate
with students as well as facilty and to not be offended or opposed to a little critisism. Most of it is to help me out
and offer me insight where I might not be seeing it. I have learned so much from the students I have had the oppurtunity to
work with this semester. Each has had their own stories to share and their own needs to be met. It also helped to get together
after our work with the students to talk about how it went each day, what was tried, what worked and what didn't.
During our chautauqua study, it was fun doing the research on our character to get more in depth
with them and learn a little bit more about ourselves in the process. I believe it was also a form a research talking to the
children, finding out about them, their interests, and what they needed to be successful learners. As teachers, I believe
it is our duty to in a sense research our students and various methods to help our students enjoy school, succeed in school,
and become life long learners. By doing this, we too are life long learners as we continously research new methods, new ideas,
and new ways to teach. This in turn betters ourselves as teachers.
I have really enjoyed working with technology in this class. Although I have not kept up with it as
I should have, my personal learning website will be something I visit often. I really enjoyed putting it together and learned
a lot while doing it. I have made several different websites since establishing this one for educational and personal use.
With the technology advancing so much, it is necessary to have a grasp on how to use it. Most schools have a website. Many
teachers also have individual websites through the school to keep parents informed of what is going on in their classroom.
It is a good way to let parents know what is going on in the classroom, any announcements, and general information about content
for each week.
It has been enjoyable working with the students, trying things my own way, and making adjustments
for their learning as needed. Each student contributed to our group and the performences of their classmates in some way.
Coordinating with other groups and doing the peer groups worked really well. Each student got some kind of feedback and it
seemed to help. This was an enjoyable project to work on with the students. It allowed me a chance to practice some teaching
skills I had learned and observed in this class and others. Even though my focus is with early elementary students, I found
I really enjoyed working with this age group as well. They still have those ah-ha moments which is so fun to see.
This class is well worth it. There is so much interaction with students as well as peers and the instructor.
THere is so much opportunity for feedback and suggestions as well as discussion. The guest speakers were also wonderful and
offered such rich materials that can be useful for students and the classroom.

Practicum Experience
During this class, we went to Apache Elementary to work with students from a
4th grade class on their Chautauqua. After watching a man portray Houdini as an example of a Chautauqua, each student in this
particular class was paired up with one student from UNM. I worked with my three students weekly to develope their Chautauqua
on a relative of their family. We went over questions to ask parents and family members to gather information, turned that
information into a story, and practiced that story to perform on a family night in parents attendence.
Below is my Chautauqua I presented to my students as a demonstration to give
them an idea what they would be doing.
Yalissa The Spirited
My mom and dad call me Yalissa
but my name is really "Baby-Cakes." Sometimes they call me Lissa Lizard because I love to stick my tongue out. My mommy says
it is a really long tongue.
I love to sing and dance. Last year,
I went to a Spring Program my big sister's school was putting on. It was boring. My sister would come home every day after
school singing these songs and teaching me but when it came time for her to perform, she JUST stood there. It was as if she
was shy or something. I don't get it. My parents made me sit there with them, but when Tyna (that's her name) came and sat
on my daddy's lap, I took that as my cue to take her place. I got up in the middle of the class in front of all these people
I did not know and starting singing "If you're happy and you know it" and dancing all over the room. I had so much fun. And
of course my sister just sat there. Now I go to the same school as my sister and we are in the same class. All her friends
are my friends and I don't think she likes it that much.
My mom and dad deliver papers early in
the morning. Sometimes we get to help out by doing right sides. It is so much fun. There is this one house called the birdie
house, the people there are really nice. I get to deliver their paper and they always have a treat for me. Usually it is some
kind of candy but occasionally I get a bag of chips or even a book. They are really nice.
My sister and I try to take turn delivering
right sides, when it is my turn, my sister gets mad and rides around without her seatbelt on, most of the time my mom doesn't
know it. When my mom does find out, she gets mad. Sometimes, she pushes on the brakes and my sister falls forward. I did this
once and since I am so light, I fell between the front seat and the back seat with my legs up over my head. I did not like
my mom that day.
For the most part, I think I am a pretty
good kid. I brush my teeth, take my vitamins, try to clean my room when I am told. I take my medication when I am suppose
to even though I really don't like it. It tastes funny and makes me really thirsty.
I used to be the baby
of the family, but my mom had my little sister last year, so I am no longer the baby. Normally, I don't have a problem with
her, unless she plays with my stuff. Then I get mad and take my toys away. One time, she climbed in my chair so I dumped her
out of it. Maybe that will teach her to leave my stuff alone.
